About Dr. Kim Oppenheimer, P.C.

Dr. Kim Oppenheimer is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and has been licencsed to practice psychology since 1986. In her clinical practice, Dr. Oppenheimer specializes in relationship issues, family transitions, divorce adjustment, high conflict divorce, acute and post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression, parenting, and blended families. Dr. Oppenheimer is currently accepting new patients. "I believe that change occurs within the context of a collaborative, trusting, safe, and supportive environment. My therapeutic style is active, open, and direct. I am practical in my approach. I give gentle, but direct feedback. I believe that what you do between sessions is just as important in reaching your therapy goals as what we discuss in session." 

In her forensic practice, Dr. Oppenheimer consults with individuals who are experiencing high conflict divorce. She provides case consultation with family law attorneys on litigation strategies and client management. She obtained post-doctoral training in conducting child custody evaluations, parent coordination, co-parenting, and court-informed therapy. Often, she has provided expert testimony pertaining to high conflict divorce, relocation, intimate partner violence, parental alienating behavior, substance abuse, and parenting plan evaluations.

Biography

Kim Oppenheimer, Ph.D., PC has been in full-time private practice in the North Atlanta area since 1992. Dr. Oppenheimer is a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in psychotherapy and in performing forensic psychological evaluations. She has published numerous research articles in professional journals and has given many peer-reviewed presentations in. the areas of divorce adjustment and anxiety disorders. Prior to full-time private practice, Dr. Oppenheimer was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Georgia State University where she taught graduate classes in psychological testing and psychotherapy. She was also an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. In this role, she was Director of Student Health Psychological Services and taught residents and interns behavioral medicine, crisis intervention, and long-term psychotherapy. Dr. Oppenheimer received the Outstanding Faculty Award for excellence in clinical training for her work with the Psychology interns for the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia. She received her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Clinical-Community Psychology and completed her clinical internship at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. She received her Master of Science degree in Psychology from Texas University and her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Psychology from Florida State University.

Dr. Oppenheimer provides coaching in positive communication to foster healthy mother-daughter dynamics. Sometimes parents and children of all ages just need to understand each other better to improve their bond.
